Outreach

Projects I am (or was) involved with - mostly in Portuguese and about bridging economics to wider audiences.

The Portuguese Business Cycle Dating Committee

I am part of a committee of economists, chaired by Ricardo Reis (LSE) and funded by Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos — that dates the peaks and troughs of the Portuguese business cycle. It was set up in 2020 as the Portuguese counterpart to the NBER and CEPR dating committees.

The committee has produced over a century of business-cycle analysis (1910–present), collected in the book Crises in the Portuguese Economy.

Real GDP of Portugal, 1910–1980, index 100 = 1953, with dated recessions shaded
